Mr Martin Kurzer
Mr Martin Kurzer MB BS FRCS received his medical degree from University College Hospital, London in 1975, and trained as a surgeon at University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital, London. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1980.
Mr Martin Kurzer spent two years in the USA and on his return in 1987 he went into private practice as a surgeon. He joined the British Hernia Centre in 1991 and now operates exclusively on patients with hernias.
He was one of the first surgeons in the UK to advocate the use of mesh for all abdominal hernias. His main interests are in local anaesthetic day-case surgery, the repair of complex recurrent groin hernias and incisional hernia repair. He has one of the largest series of open local anaesthetic hernia repairs in Europe and has trained many surgeons from around the world in the open LA tension-free mesh technique. Mr Kurzer speaks regularly on his technique at UK and international conferences.
Mr Martin Kurzer has published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters on all aspects of hernia surgery and has edited a book on hernia surgery. He is a co-founder of the British Hernia Society, member of the American and European Hernia Societies, and the British Association of Day Surgery.
